Save Money & Time With Our Winter Energy & HVAC Tips

Did you know that as much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling? It’s true and all the more reason to make smart decisions about your home’s heating, cooling, and ventilation systems since these decisions can have a big effect on your energy bill. Here at Technique Heating and Cooling, your local Scarsdale, Larchmont, White Plains, and Rye, New York HVAC company, we’re proud of the services we offer to the community and how we help our customers. Today we’ve got some tips that you can use to save money and time this winter.

  • Firstly, start by setting your thermostat to 68 degrees. This will allow your heating system to operate less and use less energy. For a small investment, consider also buying a programmable thermostat that will adjust your home’s temperature settings automatically while you’re away from your home or asleep.
  • During winter months, make the most of Mother Nature’s free warmth by opening south-facing window coverings to let in the sun. Also consider closing window coverings on windows that get no direct sunlight so that you can insulate the windows and keep the room warm.
  • Wash your clothes in cold water instead of hot water! You can save up to $40 a year if you have an electric water heater and $30 if you have a gas water heater.
  • Replace your furnace or heat pump filter on a regular basis. A dirty filter reduces air flow, meaning your heat pump or furnace has to work harder.
